Gracie’s Gems began when Meredith wanted to update her jewelry selection, but noticed that many styles she saw in both boutiques and commercial retailers had a variety of issues, including being cheaply made and over-priced. After perusing components in local shops and online, Meredith had an epiphany – “I can make these the way that I want them to go with the outfits I choose.”
After creating her first piece, which was designed as a daytime complement to her steampunk-inspired 2012 Dragon*Con costume, Meredith decided that instead of simply making jewelry for herself, she would make unique pieces for others. By doing this, Meredith hopes to continue creating new designs and expanding her knowledge of intricate jewelry-making techniques, such as wire-wrapping, chain-building and metal-casting.
